Renewals

Medical insurance policies generally need to be renewed every 12 months. This gives you an option to continue the plan for another year or change to a different insurer.

This will also give you the opportunity to add or subtract any benefits from your plan. We understand that it is impossible to plan for your future all at once.

For example, if you are not planning to have a child in the near future, you can lower your annual premium by excluding the maternity treatment benefit. However, if five years later, you are ready to start a family, you can add maternity care back to your plan. However, be warned that usually all insurers will require a waiting period for benefits such as maternity and dental care that can range from 8 to 12 months. This is a time period in which you cannot file a claim for a treatment related to that benefit, and designed to protect insurance companies from policyholders making large claims immediately after the start of the policy.

Medical insurance companies generally offer a guarantee on renewables. This means that even if you develop a serious medical condition after you have purchased the plan, the insurer cannot refuse to renew your policy. Other insurers may only insure an individual up to the age of 65. Plans are renewable for life, which means that you never have to worry about being without coverage.

In addition, all the insurers we work with calculate their premiums based on a policyholder’s age, geographical location, and local inflation. Other insurers may base premiums on a person’s claims history, which means that if you file many claims in one year, your premium may increase the next.

About one month before the anniversary of your policy, you will be reminded with a renewal terms notification. This will include all the terms for your policy in the following year including coverage and benefits level and premiums. All the exact terms and conditions will be included in this notification, giving you ample information and time to decide whether you would like to renew the plan.

If you decide that you would like to continue with the policy, simply sign the “auto renewal” option and mail the forms back to your insurer. If you decide that you would like to purchase your insurance coverage from another company, it is important to make sure you time this properly. If you do not make a seamless transaction from your current insurer to your next insurer, you may find yourself without any medical insurance coverage.

We can help you with this transaction, handling the transition in an efficient manner, so that you will not find yourself without insurance coverage.
